One thing that we feel passionately about is music and its ability to inspire and communicate beyond language in a universal way. Music is an essential part of how we make our theatre. Whether it is live or recorded, modern or very old, music informs and inspires our work. Very often we use music as a tool to transport us, and our audiences, somewhere else, where the world of the characters meets our own, and we are committed to making music that is wild, imaginative and fully theatrical.
_ The first ever performance that Little Bulb ever did was an enthusiastic and totally bizarre gig at our University bar. We were a couple of weeks into making Crocosmia and we wanted to test drive some character ideas so we booked ourselves into an open mic night and played some short songs that had come out of our rehearsals and threw in some covers by Nina Simone and Leadbelly. That August we were asked to do a gig for the Forest Fringe closing party so we hastily wrote some new songs and brushed up our old ones, we didn’t really have any idea what we were doing but we decided to keep doing it.
_ Outside of our theatre shows our music has had a life of it’s own. When the company started out music was very much a hobby. We would spend time off writing new songs and covering our favourites, playing gigs whenever we were invited to and changing our band name as often as we changed our material. Since forming we have performed as (to name but a few) The Superfishial Under Water Orchestra of Multiple Generic Endeavours, Vox Humana Meltdown and the Acoustic Theramin, Mistress Holy and The No Good Naughty Boys as well as the more plainly titled Little Bulb Band. From quirky folky background music and spontaneous acts of busking, to special appearances at festivals, clubs, caves and even a wedding we’ve been drawn to all things musical. Our most current incarnation is as Goose Party, a bizzare collection of genre fusions united by the our alter ego bands fervent desire to discover its true identity.
