Little Bulb – Performer Call Out (London)

Hello there! We are looking for London based performers who are passionate about devising for a range of upcoming projects.  You may specialise in a particular area of performance (music, dance, acting, puppetry, comedy etc) but no particular skill is a requirement.  Above all, we are looking for performers who are excited about working in a collaborative and playful way.

If you are interested then please send an email entitled ‘Performer Call Out’ to directors@littlebulbtheatre.com with an up-to-date CV (or website link/spotlight page) along with a paragraph stating why you are interested in the call out (no longer than 200 words please) or a WeTransfer link of a video/audio equivalent (no longer than 2 mins please).  We also kindly request that you please fill in this separate Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form in addition.

We want the process of applying to be as accessible as possible so if any of the above presents a barrier to you please get in touch in whatever way is available to you and we will be happy to discuss alternative options.

If selected you’ll be invited to take part in one half day workshop (approx 3 hrs in length) on either Wed 14th, Thurs 15th & Fri 16th May 2024 at Polka Theatre, Wimbledon (exact timings tbc) led by our three co-directors Alex, Clare and Dom.  If you are unable to make any one of those dates please include that information in your email.  Little Bulb will pay all selected candidates an honorarium of £50 towards their time and expenses.

We actively welcome and encourage applications from Global Majority artists, D/deaf, visually impaired, disabled and neurodivergent artists, artists who identify as LGBTQIA+, artists from a disadvantaged socio-economic background or any other marginalised group.

The deadline for applications is 6pm Friday 5th April 2024.

Thank you in advance to everyone who does apply. Being a small team and unsure of the amount of applications we will receive we apologise in advance that we cannot guarantee individual feedback on this occasion. However, we will endeavour to let all applicants know whether they have been selected by 23rd April or as soon thereafter as we can.

If you have questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch and please do pass on the word to anyone you think would be interested.

Best wishes and we look forward to hearing from you!

Little Bulb.

A bit more about what we are looking for:

We believe in empowering artists to create and tell stories that hopefully have a positive impact on the individuals, communities and families who see our work, we are therefore looking for:

  • artists who share and are excited by this vision of making joyous, meaningful, and accessible work.

  • artists who are playful, and revel in creating new things or recreating old things in a new way.

  • artists who love music and musicality and enjoy sharing it with audiences.

  • artists who are kind and are up for sharing all the many responsibilities of a creative process - writing a song for a fellow performer one minute, packing a van the next. Every day will be different and bring new challenges.

  • artists who care deeply about the audience.

  • artists who enjoy solving problems and who enjoy helping others to solve them.

As a devised theatre company, we value skills in any artistic discipline, though the qualities we care about most are an enthusiasm for working collaboratively and an openness to having a go at all the many creative processes that are needed to create a show from scratch including improvising, composing, writing, and generally feeling comfortable trying new things regardless of experience.
