Little Bulb – South West Performer Call Out
Here at Little Bulb we are very grateful to have been awarded Arts Council NPO funding 2023-26 and are excited by the prospect of delivering a more extensive programme of work than we have previously been able to. We are planning a number of productions over the next three years, and we are keen to meet some new performers to expand and diversify our team.
In this first call out we are looking for South West based performers who are passionate about devising. You may specialise in a particular area of performance (music, dance, acting etc) but above all we are looking for performers who are excited about working in a collaborative and playful way.
We know that applications can sometimes take a lot of time and effort, so we have tried to make the process of applying as accessible and stress-free as possible. If you are interested then please just send an email entitled ‘Little Bulb - Performer Call Out’ to info@littlebulbtheatre.com with an up-to-date CV (or website link/spotlight page) along with a paragraph stating why you are interested in the call out (no longer than 200 words) or a WeTransfer link of a video/audio equivalent (no longer than 2mins) and whereabouts in the South West you are based. We also request that you fill in this separate Equal Opportunities Monitoring form in addition to your email.
If selected you’ll be invited to take part in a half day workshop on either the 4th, 5th, or 6th Jan 2023 at Bristol Old Vic, led by our 3 co-directors Alex, Clare and Dom. If you are unable to make any of the dates above, please include that information in your email. We will pay all selected candidates an honorarium of £50 towards their time and expenses.
We actively welcome and encourage applications from Global Majority artists, D/deaf, visually impaired, disabled and neurodivergent artists, artists who identify as LGBTQIA+, artists from a disadvantaged socio-economic background or any other marginalised group.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 19th December 2022.
Thank you in advance to everyone who does apply. We will endeavour to respond to all applicants but as a small company doing this for the first time it may take a little while longer than we anticipate so please bear with us, we will get there and thank you in advance for your patience.
Best wishes and we look forward to hearing from you!
Little Bulb.
A bit more about what we are looking for:
At Little Bulb we believe in empowering artists to create and tell stories that hopefully have a positive impact on the individuals and communities who see our work, we are therefore looking for:
-
artists who share and are excited by this vision of making joyous, meaningful, and accessible work.
-
artists who are playful, and revel in creating new things or recreating old things in a new way.
-
artists who love music and musicality and enjoy sharing it with audiences.
-
artists who are kind and are up for sharing all the many responsibilities of a creative process - writing a song for a fellow performer one minute, packing a van the next. Every day will be different and bring new challenges.
-
artists who care deeply about the audience, it’s our mission to use their time wisely.
-
artists who enjoy solving problems and who enjoy helping others to solve them.
As a devised theatre company, we value skills in any artistic discipline, though the qualities we care about most are an enthusiasm for working collaboratively and an openness to having a go at all the many creative processes that are needed to create a show from scratch including improvising, composing, writing, and generally feeling comfortable trying new things that a show might need regardless of past experience.
